The U.S. Probation and Pretrial Services office is a branch of the Federal District Courts. In the District of Delaware, officers are responsible for a variety of tasks and responsibilities. These include presentence investigation reports that are prepared for federal judges in advance of defendants being sentenced. Pretrial services officers prepare comprehensive bail reports to assist the Court with formulating decisions on detention or release. Post conviction officers supervise individuals reentering the community after a term of imprisonment.
Officers that serve the District of Delaware are well versed in a variety of tasks such as investigations, location monitoring (GPS ankle monitoring), firearms, defensive tactics, specialized courts such as Reentry, and many more. An internship or employment with the U.S. Probation Office in the District of Delaware will provide insight into the federal justice system.
